Local? Like craigslist? Don't want a "mail ordered" dog. ;-) Would like to see it first:coat, head, paws, etc.

Beware the "white" or "silver" lab. Neither are recognized as colors of labrador retrievers by the akc. There is a reason that these dogs are the color that they shouldn't be.

Color
The Labrador Retriever coat colors are black, yellow and chocolate. Any other color or a combination of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable. White hairs from aging or scarring are not to be misinterpreted as brindling. Black--Blacks are all black. A black with brindle markings or a black with tan markings is a disqualification. Yellow--Yellows may range in color from fox-red to light cream, with variations in shading on the ears, back, and underparts of the dog. Chocolate--Chocolates can vary in shade from light to dark chocolate. Chocolate with brindle or tan markings is a disqualification.

This is taken from the breed standards by the American Kennel Club.

What's the difference in AKC and CKC? I've got papers on my English Bulldog but have never had anyone ask for them nor has the topic ever been brought up.

I've got a good friend who just ordered one and it will come "turn-key in October. He paid like $3000 for this thing but, it will know every command when he gets it. If you want, I'll check into it for ya. The guy also sells em prior to "turn-key" as well. I know he's proud of em but, my friend was begging me to come watch this pup and it's parents work about two weeks ago. He said they're amazing.

Let me know.

WOW! That's awesome. But i can't justify why i would need to spend 3k for a lab. I'm not that avid of a duckhunter ...just looking for a good pet/ occasional hunting dog. I appreciate your reply though!

Male or female. Which ones make better pets, hunters, are more obedient?

Depends i like a high strung dog my male is super hyper i love it he runs wide open every retrieve and jumps as far into the water as he can but he gets a little ruff with little kids he is just playing but hes ruff....my female is layed back slow retrieves great with the little ones though ....each dog is different. just need to look at the parents and see how they are but it is still a gamble normally ur females are better minding and layed back more though in my opion

If I could find a "GOOD" female to breed mine with! Last litter was with another yellow & she threw all yellows (not very common) a litter of 12 & all survived! Mine comes off Atta Boy blood line & have been raising own litters & trained all the puppies till I started working out of town so much. Thats where my name here comes from (wtretrievers "Whitetail Retrievers" is my kennel name) Trained most of my puppies for blood dogs, but have a many of them sold & trained as duck dogs, very laid back & sharp as a tack! That's what I mean by a "GOOD" female. Don't want to breed with anything high strung. My male will lie around or follow me were ever I go, but when it's time to work IT ON!
