Default 4-7-17 Tough Day

Get out to the launch this am around 630 and water looks horrible!! No live shrimp here so ran up LNG and found the shad but too small to fish. Go to turners to catch mullet with that low tide may have some luck. Soon as I drop trolling motor and turn it on I sheared the pin! No trolling! Now I need it to troll out of this shallow stuff and can't. Go back to launch and make me a pin and back off I go. Went back to west cove. Caught a few big pogie and little croakers in cast net. Caught two trout right away on croakers then nothing. Thru plastic and hard baits. Nothing. Water is barely fishable back here in the cove but I e had enough and goin look for better water. Go all the way to black lake. First spot 14 " trout then nothing. Run to other side and see some birds sittin on water. Two more right away and nothing after that not a bite! Looks like it's goin flat but I'm just wore out now and should of called it earlier. Fished 10-3. Kept five trout and a flounder. Thru back some small trout. Too much fresh muddy water everywhere!! Black lake was ok though and I think it would of turned on in there before dark. Pics tomorrw

I feel you. I was going to post a similar report but you summed it up. I ended up with 2 reds, 23 & 17. Didn't see a single trout all day. Some water was decent looking in west cove, but barely salty (Yes, I taste the water if something doesn't feel right). Water south of heberts was dirty and 100% fresh.

Still beat working. 😀

Thanks for sharing. Sums it up for them I'm gonna give it 4-7 days before going back which sucks cause I'm on my 7 days off and could fish everyday. Now I'm gonna work a few of em. Lol

Talked to a lot of boats at spicers and cal point. Everyone struggled with most caught early am and mostly reds.

He caught a 29&21 red. 4 keeper trout on Egret white shrimp and 3 flounder. Beached between hard head and rabbit. Super low and muddy.

Yea I caught my two trout up by hard head. It's just gonna be tough for awhile cause there is a lot more freshwater coming down the river! If I go back it will be for reds and flounder next 7days anyway

My dad and I fished this afternoon from 2:30-6 and caught our 2 man limit of trout on the east side on glow lil jons. The fish are there and most of the fish we caught were nice size.

Water was stained but fishable. I'd say 6-8" visibility. Wind was changing direction and picking up when we left. But first couple hours was flat calm.

I am not surprised to see the reports of fresh water in the big lake estuary. I drive over the 210 bridge ever day to get to work and you can see all the fresh water vegetation floating in the water from the Calcasieu River. Its just pouring in. Also we have had high winds including some west winds and the water looks very muddy. So it will be a while before all that flood water makes its way through.
