Where, oh where?
I am land locked, pulling camper. Where, between NOLA and Grand Isle would be best place for me to locate for week or two, where I can catch fish from bank, pier, or bridge? Edit: Dang it, got this in the repots forum. Admins can you please move this to proper place? Thanks! Last edited by fishn4real; 01-11-2015 at 10:43 PM. |

If you have proper surf rods and good casting distance, you can catch bull reds in the surf year round. I like to drive over to Elmer's Island because you can drive on the beach. However, if I were driving all the way from MO to LA I would park the camper at the Cameron Jetty Fishing Pier (SW LA) and bounce back and forth between fishing Rutherford beach (a few miles E) and the Jetty fishing pier. Of course, I'm a bull red junkie. If specks and slot reds are your thing, GI is a better bet. |

Robinson Canal in Chauvin has a camp ground and you can catch fish right off of the bank there..... mostly reds, drum and sheepshead. ETA; http://www.bing.com/local?lid=YN873x...ar+grocery+inc |

Thanks everyone, I plan to be there by Jan 17 and will have a week to 10 days to scout and fish. I recall that GI pretty muvh is shut down during winter, does that include bait, or are artificials recommended?

If there are some warm days before your drive, you may be able to find live crabs on your drive down along Hwy 1. I see a lot of people using artificials fishing the drains and moving water along the last stretch of Hyw before the bridge to GI, also under the lights on the pier at night. I've never seen anyone really fill a cooler that way, but they catch a few fish, usually a mix of trout (sand and specs), reds, and flounder. |
