What does the boat weigh and what pitch prop 3 or 4 blade? Is the boat rated for 150 HP?

run
has it always been that way? those are good motors but almost everything gets wore out before you get too much into it see if your compression is good and even across all four cylinders, you can rebuild that motor and make it a higher horse power for a lot less than a new 150 would cost, and still have a better motor, i am pretty sure you can make that motor at least a 130hp
your prop could be wore out! what size prop do you have, maybe we could do a prop swap test run, i have the same motor(just a couple years older) i would like to try a few different props to see if i can find one to perform on my boat a little bit better |

I have a Yamaha 115 on 1910 nautic star and got the same problem and did a different pitch it helped but still slow out gate I asked about upgrade to a 150 and they say you have to get hydraulic steering for 150 which is expensive to change out I feel your problem

I don't really thing its a prop problem or do I think I need trim tabs for this size boat. Seems like otor is just worn out. Been that way for a while. Still drives great once on plane and weight is distributed good.
Who do you recommend to check compression and make adjustments on motor. Boat is in LC. Thanks, |

lc
don't know anyone in lc but i am sure some people will chime in soon, props do wear out too, getting in some shallow water, sand and mud will wear out a prop you can lose some blade which will affect performance, if the motor doesn't get used too much it could be your carbs also, does the motor idle fine or is it rough, maybe an issue with low speed jets or somthing

I have the same engine except 2 years older. It has been very reliable and has performed well for many years. The only problem I have had is an overheating problem caused by crud getting into the cooling channels. I run a 19 foot center console and have never had a problem with the hole shot. if it is not the prop, I bet you may have a fuel or carburetor issue. To me, it would be worth getting it checked out.

Carbs

Def have someone do a carb job, just cause it runs doesnt mean it is running right, you can damage your motor running it with dirty carbs |

do a compression test and make sure you are firing on all cylinders, its easy for these motors to run without one cylinder and not be noticed.
in the old days if you lost a cylinder it would run really rough but these new motors with electronics and all that they can still run smooth also replace all fuel filters and run some fuel system cleaner in it. if its just old then switch to premium fuel and it will help out a lot. replacing the prop will help your hole shot and get your performance back to where it needs to be to give you more years out of the motor. a new prop is a lot cheaper then a new motor. |

Sounds like you have a few things going against you. Once it does get on step how many rpm's does it spin up at WOT? That motor should be around 5,500.

sacrifice a little top end for load carrying and hole shot

I should have been more clear....5,500 WOT with your normal fishing load. How ever many people you usually bring, tackle, ice chests, ect. Sure you can run it higher than that but for longevity I would stay close to 5,500.
