I been in the oil field going on 12 years......I don't mind it because of the time off.....You miss a lot of thing but its a great job and supports my family well. Not many jobs you can work half a year (with vacation less than half) and make the money we make out here...

When I think about working on land , there is not many jobs that you can have lots of time off ,most are M-F and off on holidays and weekends (NOT FOR ME)

If you stay with a company long enough you earn time off so that is more time with wife and kids...

X2 on what W said. It is all a mind game, if you don't let it get to you being away and you have the right attitude it is great. I have worked with some guys who were just miserable being out here. I may not be home every day so I miss alot of stuff with my kids but I still feel I can spend more time with them than most dad's by the amount of time I have off.

Biggest thing I laugh at is guys (mostly young guys) get all bent out of shape come Fri worrying about what there girlfriend or wife is doing....

I said this all along, If you cant trust your wife or girlfriend while your gone working !! Why the hell are you with them in the 1st place

I have seen some many guys almost go stupid insane because his Wife or Girlfriend don't answer the cell phone..LMAO

Im glad I have been blessed with a good wife, but some of these dudes just go off the deep end.....

I think this is the biggest down fall for most men offshore from what I see....I have seen guys get up at 12,1,2,3,4 in the a.m. to go call and find out where there women is......AND WAKE ME UP DOING SO WHICH PISSESS ME OFF

I'm like you guys. Where can you make the money we make on shore. Yes I would liketo be home with family everynight. I think it is harder on my grandkids than it is on me. Breacks my heart to see them cry when I gone for so long. I work 28 & 28. but the good things is they get spoiled with lots of stuff when Papa is home. LOL

I used to work offshore on 24 hour call and that really sucked because you could never plan anything. As soon as you would start having some fun the damn phone would ring and that was it. But our company opened a shop in Oklahoma and offered a few of us a 14&14 schedule and i jumped all over it. The time off is priceless and i could never see myself going back to 24 hour call or even having a 9 to 5 job. To only work half a year and make great money is well worth being miserable for 2 weeks!!

I've thought about going offshore in the past, but I don't think I could start out making what I make now and I couldnt be away from my family that long. A lot of my wifes family does it and like it though.
