Default Home Builders in the Lafayette/Abbeville area.

Well we have our land and the wedding festivities are over. Time to start looking into building our house. Would anyone have any recommendations on good builders who are easy to work with? We are both very green when it comes to what it takes to build a home. The land is located in Nunez so it shouldn't be too far for local people I wouldn't think.
We are not looking for anything too fancy just an Acadian home look with some room to grow into.
I appreciate any suggestions y'all may have in getting us started!!!

Manuel Builders....my dad had a acadian style 2 story house built by them 23 years ago and several other family members used them with good experience.

I was in the new construction industry for several years. By far the best builder I have seen start to finish was Jimmy Hebert.

Do you have his contact info? I'll be building a custom home very soon also and just got my house plans completed. I need to start getting bids ASAP.

I had my house built by Schumacher. So I would recommend Manuel builders. They run about $3-5 more per square foot, but I think they are easier to work with.

Another vote here for Manuel Builders. Used them about 3.5 years ago and would use them again in a heartbeat.

2 of my co-workers recommended David Hollier Construction when I was looking for a contractor. He had built both of their houses and an addition on one of the houses. I decided to self-contract. You can also check out the AHBA website for a list of contractors.

I'm a custom home builder in Baton Rouge . Here's a few suggestions when selecting a home builder:
1) ask around like you are
2) drive around , go look at the job site(s) . Is it clean n well kept , IMO A builder who takes pride in the job by keeping it clean most likely takes pride in the entire process.
3) ask for a copy of their contract to review well in advance. Guys who are not trying to hide anything won't have a problem with giving you this
4) don't send your job out to bid if u want it done right. All bidding wars do is cause builders to cut costs to stay competitive. I have gotten to the point I won't bid against other builders because other builders don't price tge home the way tge ar****ect drew it ( substitute lesser price/ quality materials, 24" oc rafters not 16"o.c. Etc) IMO bidding also creates tension between potential client and builder. The way I see it is it costs what it costs I'm not adding an extra 20k to the job incase you try to beat me up on the price and if you commit to me as being your builder b4 I give you a price it's gonna be the same # as if I had to bid against other builders. Bottom line I'm very honest and ethical with my business not all builders are , but if you spend some time with potential builders and their job sites I'm sure you can make tge right choice. Who ever you feel most comfortable with. Pm me if you have any questions etc
