Default Looking to fish

I live an hour north from Lafayette and an hour from Baton Rouge and I'm looking for a place to fish. I've really only surf fished once a summer for the last ten years and I'm really looking to get into speck and red fishing. I'm looking for a good place to take my 18 foot bass boat. Cypremort Point is the closest to me I think but they say the fishing isn't that good. Where can I go on day trips and be able to catch a few fish.

The point doesn't pick up, at least for specks, until October/November. It can get really good around the cove that time of year. The cove is the area to left coming out of Quintana Canal where the rock jetties are and then north along the bank to the camp docks. It's less than 10 minutes from the boat launch there.
