Default Hercules rigs out of Cameron. Federal?

The subject pretty much asks the question. About 6-7 miles out from the Cameron jetties are 3 Hercules rigs. Are these in federal water or not?

Thanks!

It used to be 3 nautical miles then was temporarily extended to 9 nautical miles a few years ago for the snapper season. But I don?t know the correct answer to your question.

Thanks for the reply. That 9 mile thing was the source of my confusion.

I ended up calling LDWF and got bounced around to a few different folks but eventually got the definitive answer that the federal line is indeed at 3 miles. So those specific platforms are indeed in federal waters.

With the caveat that where the 3 miles starts near the shore is anyone's guess.

Funny thing... this all started due to a dream I had where a buddy and I were fishing there and he caught a cca tagged redfish. I ended up losing my boat to the feds and he got a new boat. Gotta love weird dreams as he wouldn't be able to keep the fish after the feds showed up, and cca would have shot it down for not being a legal catch if he somehow did.
