Default Big Lake tomorrow

Wind conditions looking good for tomorrow, can't pass up the chance. Going to hit the lake in the morning and drift for some trout then when the tide is right, go for some reds at the edge of the flats in Choupique Bayou or in the Salt Ditch. Will let ya'll know how we do.

Well, what a wash. Should have known better than to head out this morning since there was barely enough water at the launch to get the boat off the trailer. Got into Turners and just started fishing when we found a very shallow reef. Good thing the tide was on the rise, only had to wait 45 minutes to get enough water under the boat to float it off! Good thing I have the Gorilla Hull, or I would have been really upset. Once free we headed to the salt ditch to just snag a few lines. Would have been better to wait and fish this afternoon. Guess I will wait and try tomorrow afternoon.

Turners Island, shallow reefs exist roughly 200 yds 360 degrees. I would steer Wide of all points heading into Turners and when indoubt, IDLE.

I have only been there twice and i will be there tomorrow and saturday as well. You are fine launching out of Calc Point, but when you turn the corner going into Turners and you see the island to your left DO NOT head towards it, you will drag bottom. Go way around it, and definitely idle still, and make sure you do not come close to anyones drift path. Seen 2 guys get dog cussed for that! I can't wait to get out there, good luck

There are many oyster reefs in the Turners bay area. Some reefs are fairly large and some are small.

I am going up to the "river parishes" this weekend to do some Bow hunting. I have not been to Big Lake in a while, is the water still real clear like it was a few weeks ago.......I might make fishing trip after this weekend.

Much better day today. We started with a drift on the North end of the lake, well South of the island. 2 other boats besides us and no one catching fish that I saw. We went to old faithful, Choupique Bayou, and caught and released ~15 reds. We used black/chartreuse cocahoe on 3/8 leadhead and also tried new penny gulp 3" shrimp. Both produced but the cocahoe did better and produced larger fish.
