Default Cajun Microwave

I'm starting this projecct so we can cook a pig for Christmas, and need y'all to give some creative ideas for a simple firebox/lid.

I'm leaning towards using an old sink, but am at a road block on how to plug the drain holes...

What's y'all's thoughts?

I don't have access to metal and welders right now, so this piece will be the base for what everything else is built around.

Dig a square hole in the ground A couple feet deep are so, line hole with aluminum foil and lay in grill off the ground a few inches, cover with a piece of metal/ tin and make fire on top, seen this done plenty of times.

I'm in Broussard.

I've dug holes before and done it that way, but they are difficult to bring with you for tailgating.

Guys at the deer camp did that once years back. Next trip up we brought a Cajun microwave. They couldn't believe they had wasted all that time over the years digging holes!

1- Get a metal drain stop, remove the rubber gaskets, line it with aluminum foil and stick it in the hole

2- Get a small piece of tin, call your plimber buddy over and have him and solder it to the sink

3- Get a cover built at your local sheet metal shop

I like the sink Idea, you could get some grates and cook over the coals like that.

If you make it to Morgan City I can help you out.
If you you can get some metal and rivet it in.

PM Sent, the box will be done tonight - all that's left is the lid/coal tray, and a base, but that part is easy...

Cool, my buddy has one like that. He used it a couple time then ended up insulating on the outside and it worked much better.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to do that before I wrap it. Not sure if I want a cypress wrap, diamond plate, or tin...

Get some old pallets and make a rustic/cypress look.

Would it be worth it to build a smaller one? Say 24"x24"x20" deep for briskets, roasts, ribs. Whole chickens and turkeys? Ill never do a whole pig but i think it would be really cool to build one

Yea, I built this one just for big family get togethers so we can do a hog, or a few turkeys or a bunch of chickens.

I will definitely do one about half this size next for what you are talking about.

Took a break from it, now I got the plate done. All that's left is installing the thermometer and making my grate and drip pan.

Here is a pic.
