The Burns 6/10/2017
Main baits were Zoom Horny Toads, flukes, Ultra Vibe Speed Craws and Trick Worms. Every time I go out there, I try the Speed Craws and have never had so much as a bream tap on it. While cleaning fish, 6 out of 10 of them has a crawfish in it's stomach. Kinda drives me nuts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Get you a permit.
From what I've seen out there this year, anything goes. 40hp, 60hp, humongous surface drives... I'm waiting to see a Skeeter next. Let er rip! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well I hope they start patrolling again. I have a 37 hp surface drive and I don't take it into the Burns...I use my 25 Tohatsu. I don't usually vent but this is BS!!!!!!!!! There are too many of us who go by the rules to see a few POS flaunt the rules in our face because they probably got they way as a child. To all of us who were taught to follow the rules...good fishing!!

What does bother me is the extent to which the water hyacinth is taking over, and the rate that it's reproducing in the main canals. I spun my prop in that stuff awhile back. I guess if we still had cold winters it would help control it a bit more. Eventually, this is going to be a big problem out there. What used to be wide, pretty canals are being reduced to a narrow trail through ugly banks of hyacinth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

T-Boo, how are you fishing your craws? I have never had much luck anywhere fishing them Texas rigged. I like mine on the back of a jig. One the has been working well for me on Vernon is the Arkie jig you can get at WalMart in Missouri Craw color I think. I put an ultra vibe speed craw on the back of it in junebug color.

I'm doing a Texas-rig. I've tried it weedless, with a small pegged slip-sinker, and with a small split-shot.
There's a lot of grass out there so an exposed-hook jig would be impractical (for me, at least). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Have you tried a Carolina rig? maybe to try and keep it above the weeds?

I pretty much stick to weightless, weedless-rigged baits like Horny Toads, Flukes, Trick Worms other than the occasional buzzbait out there in the marsh.

go with baby pacacraw next time.. 1/4oz weight possibly light if you want to stay on top of grass. Murder some bass on that pacacaw. Watermelon crawfish color if you can find it.

I tried the craw again yesterday and got nothing. They were nailing Flukes and Senkos, though.

Man, to stop allowing fishing in there would just destroy a part of Louisiana life, culture and tradition. That would be devastating.
I remember going out there as a kid with my Dad and Grandpa. Priceless stuff, there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

And, you know... you never see a Coke bottle, beer can, candy wrapper, or Wal-Mart bag floating in the water ANYWHERE out there. That's kinda remarkable to me in this day and age where most people don't give much of a crap about anything that they don't personally own.
I think the people that buy a permit to fish out there show a great amount of respect to the Miami property. I've never heard of any major boating accidents out there, either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
