How does the time of year and depth of salinity level affect what we are all seeing out in the Bay?

Usually the atchafalaya is lower (below 9 ft) and those same fronts blow the water out of the bay and it refills with saltier water. During good years you will see the salinity spike (7 PPM is the magic number for good trout fishing) bad years, like last year and shaping up to be this year as well, salinity stays low.

Last year was due to east winds. even though the river was low, the east winds kept the bay dirty and also blew in the fresh water. I did catch trout in almost completely fresh water, you just dont see the numbers in fresh water though.

This year we still have the flood waters to deal with. Weeks is still almost completely fresh. After each front you will see the salinity creep up a little bit. Usually it is a major spike.

One thing I have noticed is that the river needs to be under 9 and we also need to have the right winds for salinity to rise.
