Default Anyone use weedless jigheads for trout

Got some spots I like to fish that is full of stumps looking for different ways to catch em without loosing 20 jigheads a trip. Thinking about giving these a shot just concerned the weed guard will hurt hooksets on trouts papermouth. Anyone ever used something like these?

Yea, the shoreline on lake P has a big grass bed. Thrown weedless in there in spring.
And some spots in Delacroix

Yea, depends on the size bait & hook size IMO
Need a good gap on the hook.
A jerk bait works good.
Or a strait tail Dudley.

if you realize the hook set isnt working, maybe trim a few of the brisles off to make it less stiff

For bass jigs I found the hook up ratio increases if you cut back the guard a little bit depending on the amount of cover youre fishing. And cut at an angle parallel to the hook

I do that also for bass....my main concern was the soft trout mouth and not getting a good hookset with the weedgaurd. Gunna give it a shot

for those bass jigs, some of the brisles are stiff as can be and you have to set the hook pretty hard for them to hook up right. have you ever thought about using a finesse jig, which is a weighted extra wide gap worm hook, I've caught trout using them with grubs. and its weedless too, works like a texas rigged worm

Id trim most of the bristles off, only having 5 or 6 on there should be plenty to keep ya off the stumps and not affect the hook up

I can show you where they at....it's really no secret most people move on cause they get hung up too much but that is where the big ones live. The star for southcentral was won in one of these spots a few years back.
