Default Grand Isle Mosquitoes

Heading down in a couple weeks. The fishing gear is ready, the house is rented, the extra money to supplement all the fish I won't catch is saved. I have one outstanding issue. My cousin and her husband are meeting us for "a taste of real Louisiana" but she is worried about them skeeters. How bad are they right now, and if it's pretty dry leading up to our arrival, will they at least be tolerable? I've been in Holly Beach in April with my Vietnam vet dad who said they weren't nearly that bad in the dense jungles of Southeast Asia. So any sort of south LA remedies, legends, lies that might work are welcome. My wife told me to go on that Saltycajun thing and ask for advice, and who am I to argue. Thanks.

have a lot of deep woods off and go inside at least a half hour before dark and you'll be fine. in the mornings, just get sprayed real good before going outside

I would say they are about average for this time of year

actually it has been very good the last 2 years we have been going. They must be doing a hell of a good job of spraying. As long as you are up on a deck and not on the ground it is fine. unless a lot has changed in the last few weeks which is very possible.

Just got back this weekend from GI. Mosquitos aren't too bad, but if you go on Elmer's Island, and I'm sure the GI beach, first thing in the morning, the deer flies are bad. On the island they have been spraying at night and we actually stayed outside after dark around the camp and on the bridge and didn't feel any. If the wind goes flat, no-seeums (sand gnats) will be the problem. A good home mixture repellent for no-seeums is this:
1 cup Listerine
1 cup Witch Hazel
8-10 drops of Tea Tree Oil
Mix it up and put in a sprayer. Works better than Skin so Soft and the new Victoria's sEcret spray and you don't smell like a HO.
