Default Bl 7/27, got sharks?
Decided to try an afternoon trip and hopefully catch that big tide swing. The wind was ripping pretty good and most of the spots that I wanted to try were muddy. So, I figured that I screwed up and the day was going to be a bust. We were literally on our 8th spot when we finally found a few trout. Bunch of dinks but a few good ones mixed in. I'm not complaining. I feel lucky to have found a few in all that mess. Ended up with around twenty. Some on Opening Night lil jon but most on Matrix Shad.

First time this has happened to me in Big Lake, Shark bit my trout in half.

I mean, I'm assuming it was a shark. Never really felt him hit the trout. All of a sudden, half was gone.

It's been a few years since that happened to me on a trout, but one of my boys had his gafftop bit in half last year. We saw a post on LA Sportsman earlier this year with a bull redfish bitten in half, so we've tried to get them into the boat a bit more quickly.

But I don't really think there are that many sharks in the lake. We fish a lot with bait, but we can't even really catch them when we're trying to (maybe one shark every 5-10 fishing trips). Even with chumming, shark fishing is a slow deal in and around the estuary.

Ok, relatively common. So, sand sharks?

Guys in the basin are talking about catching bull sharks on their catfish lines.

Of all sharks, I believe bull sharks are the most common in freshwater systems. They have been known to travel far up the Mississippi to Missouri and Illinois. Amazing creatures, but it is unsettling to many to know that an apex predator such as a bull shark is swimming so close to home.

I'd love to catch one. Fascinating creatures.....

the big ones ive seen on the south end last couple times out look like black tips to me...seen a couple real big ones.

it could be one of 20+ sharks.. We caught several bull sharks in V Bay last year, they seem to be one of the more common sharks


there are even great white sharks in the GOM right now

There are many different kinds of sharks in LA inshore waters. We've caught mostly bulls and black tips, and others seem to report that these are very common also. There are lots of other possibilities.

Most of the sharks I seen in big lake have been black tips and few bullsharks

I tagged a few last year
