Wanting another barrel

Currently I hunt with an Encore Pro Hunter in .270 caliber. Wanting to get another barrel but I am torn between a few calibers. I'm stuck between the 7mm-08, 30-06, and .300 win mag. I know the .300 is alot of gun for LA deer, but something is just drawing me to it. Thoughts?

I have been shooting .300s since I was 10 years old. I wouldn't shoot anything else. Can never have too much gun IMO. I big game hunt a lot too.

I have 2-300s and like them. Both encores. The full synthetic with regular barrel kills on both ends. The woodgrain with bull and muzzle break hardly kicks at all. I'd still rather shoot my 22-250 at anything tho.

Thanks for the info. Not sure I want to get killed on my end though. May look in to getting a Weatherby.

I think you have enough with the .270. But the .300 is a better choice than the others.

I know that brother!!! It's more of a wanting more toys and look what I shoot kinda thing.

Man my buddy has a weatherby 270 with a custom synthetic stock and some grip tape on it. Gun is fine and shoots great. That big swar on top helps too.

I think the 7-08 is about 60 bucks for a box of shells too.

The 300 is pretty flat and it's chunking some lead. My theory is all the energy that goes out the other side of the animal is useless. Where as my little 250 if I do shoulder shoot one they have to absorb the entire force and most of the time drop on the spot. But if you do have to track one it doesn't leave much of a blood trail. Deer usually less than 50 yards away tho. But I still enjoy smoking one with the big 300 every now and then.

Well, we got some timber due to be cut in a year or two, and I'm looking at setting up a couple of spots in the cutovers with the possibilities of having a couple of 400 yd lanes and I wouldn't trust my .270 that far.

I've killed deer out to 500 with a 25-06, so if the accuracy is there, I would trust a 270 out to 400 with a high BC relatively heavy bullet.

But if your heart is set on a .300 WM, I recommend a muzzle brake. I've had two, one with a brake and one without. The one without was brutal, the one with a break us a joy to shoot.

I like the 208 grain AMAX as a deer and elk bullet. Sleek and accurate and excellent terminal performance across a range of impact velocities.

I love the .270 caliber but a .300 will be my next rifle

I'd go 7-08 or .280. Both have pretty tame recall and plenty of down range punch. Also no matter what cal. you have, you need to practice @ 400 yrd if you plan on taking that kind'a shot. Even then, shooting targets and shooting deer are two different things.. At least for me, my cross hairs move quiet abit more when on a deer for some reason...
