Default browning shotgun

I have a browning a-5 shotgun w/o the vent rib. is the ser# located under the receiver?
and if so the # are 11701..
I think it was one of the earliest made.
is this correct?

Possibly from 1903-1930. Get on their website and they actually have a serial number database to find the age of your firearm.

Mine starts 35 in a 5 digit serial number. Its a 1956 model.
