Called the refuge and found out it will be closed through August.

As my knowledge, the construction is supposed to be completed between July 23rd and sometime in August. As for Locks, the project should finish on June 1st. The Price Lake Road is open although.

The Rock
Went by there this past Sunday. Yes both east and west launch sites are closed with closed metal gates to prevent entrance. As mentioned Price Lake road is open but you can't launch a boat there.

Thats what I would do. I don't think there is a law against that. Maybe even a kayak if you've got one.
I've got a buddy that is fishing price lake road 3 times a week right now. He is serious about gar and has been doing really well on them. The people are thicker than horse flies in the marsh over there. He gets there at 4:00 in the morning. Now that's bank fishing. Get a kayak and you can skip all the hustle and bustle. |

Very risky to put in at Rollover and run to Joseph's Harbor entrance. 15 miles. My uncle and I capsized a 20' aluminum boat trying to do just that. 20 mile hour South-Southeast wind. That beach is very unfriendly on a stiff south wind.
I will tell you this. During the summer you get a predominantly Southwest wind. Normally the mornings are calm. If you can make it to Joseph's Harbor in the morning on the lite surf you can go back to Rollover with the swell. You don't want to be going into the waves on the beach, always with them. You also don't want to leave the mouth of rollover with a stiff south wind and an outgoing tide. The waves stack at the entrance where the tide meets the wave. It makes for tall waves close together. That combination is a killer of boats. |
