to me live bait is to MEAT HAUL....granite I dont like live but i be damned if i spend 50 bucks in gas and too proud to admit i throw live to cqtch some trout, red, flounder....the only reason...im not trying to trick em with a chart top water fake bait, im trying to EAT em.....on the other hand they want REAL bait some times.....Skill wise art. is trying to imitate REAL....admit it...its better on art. because you tricked em...try and eat a plastic steak would you....hmmmm only if it looked REAL....point said you still have to find emmmmm...if i win the starr with REAL bait do i win the boat...........ummm yes suhhhhh...but art. takes more skill.....take that to the bank....and agree....the truth will set you freee...lol.

Welllllllllllll I can sit on side of you and catch, maybe not as much as you, but while your slinging in pickles im slingin 1-3lb trout in the boat with a sand eel or topwater.
You may catch 100 fish but my 30 will be mostly solid fish sometimes you get in a school of dinks and thats all you pull of of it but most of the time there are a little bit bigger fish hanging around the area.
Live Bait = 0 skill
Artificial = Basic Skill and will produce better fish, most of the time

Live bait im talking about skrimps not mullet still no skill but them mullet put some good fish in the boat as well as hard heads, reds, gaftop etc.

live bait...usually used by a fisherman who wants to catch fish. i.e. a person who's only chance to fish is on weekends because he or she has to work during the week in order to provide for his/her family. I can't blame a guy who wants to catch fish and know his chance will increase if live bait is used. Go for it.

yes artificial takes skill...but any slap nut can throw into a school of hungry trout and catch.

so it depends...

As someone who makes his living in this industry, I can say this. We struggle everyday to build the better bait/ mousetrap/ the new "holy crap I can't believe we haven't thought of this before!!!" As far as soft plastics goes, our best producing baits are close cousins, in color, to their real life counterparts.

As far as which type of fisherman is better, depends on your perspective. What's the objective? Catch fish? Not sure that a line can be drawn if the end result is the same.

I fondle more plastic baits before 9am than you will in your life...

If they are schooling, a crome plated turd with hooks will catch trout. Lol!
