Default Anybody been to Costa Rica Sailfishing?

I'm thinking about making a trip down there to sailfish and squeeze a honeymoon in when I'm on land. When's the best time of year? And costs?

Check out Los Suenos resort. A friend of mine has his boat down there. A few of our friends have been down and they said the place, the fishing, everything is AMAZING!!! I am pretty sure the past couple of months (March-April) are the best time to go. They fished a big time tournament there at the end of March, so fishing wise, that is probably the best time.

Yes. Costa Rica was very nice especially some of the night life. The captains log on the boat we fished in i believe it was Feb had 24 sailfish caught in one day.

My wife and I went to CR on our Honeymoon. Great time! She caught a huge 120 (ish) lb pacific sail, got sea sick (probably high volume of wine night before induced) so we came back in.

I'd love to move to CR. We stayed in town of Quepos, which is about an hour South of Los Suenos resort in Jaco Beach area. Quepos is part of the Manuel Antonio State Park. Lots of other activities. Zip lines through jungle, mangrove tours. They have an active volcano about an hour up the mountain that is supposed to be beautiful. We didn't have time to make it up there to see.

Easy flight out of Houston. Only about 2.5 hours. Flew into San Juan and then took puddle jumper over mountains to Quepos.

Hi There
I have been planning Costa Rica itineraries and honeymoons for 10 years here. We represent boats throughout the country so you can fish in each location. Our office is in Quepos and Manuel Antonio where there is so much to do in addition to the fishing. Check out our website http://www.queposfishing.com and there is a blog on honeymoons if you read it it will give you some itineraries. Please send me an email and I will be happy to accommodate all of your fishing and accommodation needs. Info@queposfishing.com 18006030015

My friend Jerry said it depends on what you want to spend. They fished out of Los Suenos and caught lots of fish. He and his brother also did quite a bit of diving. They own a place their and fish off a friends boat. I didn't know that he owned a place there. Glad I asked him because he offered me to stay there whenever I want. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Been Tarpon fishing in costa rica. I can recommend that. But if you are after sailfish then I have no advice.

OK more info from my friend.

Fishing is excellent all the time. Rooster fish are HUGE. Stripped Marlin all year round. Big Blues are seasonal. If you want to catch fish but not show off call Alex at 8534-7049 tell him to say Jerry from Houston sent ya. It will make things easier. Alex will take care of everything for you he is out of Jaco. Jaco is just a little fishing and surfing town. Some night life. Kinda dead right now though. Nice and quite. If your serious about catching the real good ones and your got about 2K to spend for a day of fishing let me know. Jerry can put you in contact with the right people for that. It's all about what your looking to spend.

Costa Rica Dreams. Located in Los Suenos Marina. We fished 1/2 day and caught 3 sails, 1 blue, 65# and 50# dorado.

I have fished with Costa Rica Dreams several times and stayed at Los Suenos.
First class operations.
The condo's at Los Suenos are cheaper thru vrbo, but from time to time Costa Rica Dreams has good deals on their condos inside the resort.
The resturants in Los Suenos are also first class, except for THe Hook Up. It has good atmosphere, mostly drinking going on and overlooks the marina, but the food is not that good. They also have the cheapest Tshirts in the resort.
There is a great Italian and a great Asian places to eat.
If you want snacks, get them outside the gate. Things are expensive at the little store, but you pay for convience.
Costa Rica Dreams has a capt, mate and deck hand on board. You order your food the evening before, get on the boat in the morning, they hand you drinks, food, snacks, do all the work. When you get in, you say thanks, tip the crew and walk away.
All the boats are in great shape and real clean.
There is also Maverick Sportsfishing in Los Suenos. It is a first class operation also, but they have never had openings on the days I want to fish.

I could go on for hours on this topic! Like CM Drost, I to have big "Pipe Dreams" of retiring to Costa Rica!!!

Went on a couples trip several years ago and stayed at Hacienda Dorado. It was during the rainy season which is equivalent to our summer shower season. Fishing was incredible. One day we hooked 19 sails, the next day we only hooked 4, but were targeting tuna and dorado. Another place we enjoyed was Mazatlan Mexico. Mazatlan was more "touristy", but was really nice also.
