Default Transplanting Cane

I just got into a duck lease in delacroix and me and my buddies were thinking about transplanting some roseau cane around our blind so we wouldnt have to brush them every year. Has anyone done this?

Roseau is an extremely aggressive plant. If you take only a few stalks and plant it this year in two years from now you will have a hell of a stand. You have to be careful about putting that stuff out just anywhere. You may have more of a problem on your hands than a solution when it is all said and done. On a side note, Roseau doesn't do well in deep water (< 12 inches) so it may not even grow if you plant it deep.

I screwed up my old pond with cane. It will take over even faster if there is a drought.
The only thing I could find to kill it is a weed poison called Rodeo, and you have to have a herbicide license to buy it.
I would try to get some mangroves or cat tails growing. They are easier to kill with simple weed killers.
You will regret cane after a few years.
The only good thing about cane is it does a good job of camoflaging and it is easy to cut and put out cause it is so thick. But it will fall into the water and every joint on every stalk will start a new stalk....ect until it plugs off ditches in the summer and eventually clogs ponds.

Default Beyond Take-over

Cane attracts animals that usually eat the cane...found that out in a rice field blind...big mess all the way around.

My pond was close to 25 acres. The cane stayed around my boat blind for years. We had a big drought and after the first big rain, it seemed to surround the whole pond, then it cut it in two, then started closing in.
We burned it and it got worse. Just the leaves burned, the stalks stayed and produced more leaves.
We sprayed it with 24D, Remedy and Round-Up. Nothing put a dent in it.
Then we found Rodeo. It kilt it dead. After Rita, it all came back. Saltwater won't kill it. I don't know how to spray that much salt on 25 acres of saltwater.

I used saltgrass around the blind. No problems there.

Disclaimer, I have never tried this but my Green Thumb cousins say it will work(They grow plants for a living).
Vinegar in a high strenght solution is supposed to kill just about any plant.
By high strenght, I mean greater than what you buy in the store, + 25%.
By reason, it makes sense because the main ingredient in Roundup is salt and vinegar. The other poisons that really work are expensive $400.00 per gallon which are way outta my budget.
