Default Shallow Water Anchors

I remember a post on "that other site" talking about shallow water anchors like the Wang, Stick It, Cajun Anchor, etc. Well last time I was at Big Lake, I bounced my Wang Anchor out of the boat in some rough water. It was a sweet stick, but it costs about $100 shipped to replace the anchor. Of course the bracket is still on my transom.

Well, since I've been stuck over here in Texas, I did some research on solid fiberglass (which is a much better option than PVC and not nearly as loud or heavy as stainless steel). I thought y'all might be interested in my replacement.

8 foot solid fiberglass rod from http://www.mgs4u.com/ultralight-PPC.htm for less than $20.

Epoxied a PVC T-piece to the end and put a loop of nylon rope on the end. That way you have the option of tying off to it, or putting it through a bracket.

Finally, the busniess end is easily grinded to a point with a belt sander.

Default Caution

Watch that fiberglass...it will get splinters over time. Especially in oysters!

Default Maybe....

But it is exactly the same stick used in the Wang Anchor and others. I figure at $18 bucks + change, I'll chunk it and build them as needed. It feels strange saying it, but I loved my Wang.

Thats much cheaper than stainless, unless you get one for free like I did. Does it sink as good as a stainless one.
