thinking about getting into it to go along with photography..

Def get it. And get an extra memory card and battery

How good is the mount thing? Also, whats the deal with the remote?

Like mine. Is pretty good for up close video. Big plus that it's waterproof.

Mount is great!! Will wrap onto anything.
Remote is not extremely useful for recording. But it can be done

only 4x digital zoom might not be to good for long shots. for 250 you can grab a standard deff sony handy cam with 30x optical zoom. digital zoom is ok for about 30 yards but any more it gets grainy.
