Default Big Lake 4/29

Me and a buddy decided to take his boat out yesterday and take a stab at Big Lake. I had been watching the satellite imagery closely and it looked like it may be settling down a bit. Since it was a full moon and a late tide, we decided to sleep in a bit then put in a long day. Got to Calcasieu Point at 8:40 and stopped at our first spot on the north end of the lake at 9:00. The water looked nice about 8-10 inches of visibility. We fished there until 10:30 and picked up 4 solid trout (21-17 inches).

We then went to Commissary point with no luck. The water was a little cloudier the further south we went. Someone told us that they were having some luck on reds around Grand Bayou so we headed south. Only got one black drum and a LOT of big gaftop and small hard-heads. The boats were stacked there like crazy so we didn't stay long.

Left there and went to a few spots on the south end of the lake. Water was cloudy there so we made the loop and stopped in Joe's. We got on a school of dinks and that was it. It took us a minute to get out of there because we couldn't get the boat on plane due to the low tide.

Went back to our first spot around 3:00 and fished there until 4:30 and only managed one more trout.

We talked to the LDWF agent that was doing a fish survey at Calcasieu Point and he said that everyone coming back to the launch had low numbers. I guess it was the full moon that had them eating at night. Oh well, it beat working in the yard. Caught all on Matrix and Suspension baits. Calcasieu Point didn't have any bait.

Thanks for the report.

What site do you use to view up to date satellite imagery?
