Are there any public places to put in close to the salt barrier? Wanting to look for new places to fish up north.

Drive to the end of Mimms Rd. in Westlake and launch right at the Salt Water Barrier.

X2 on launching at Ryan street... sketchy at best.. if you want to fish that area, the launch at the saltwater barrier is just a short peddle from there. you can launch under the I-10 bridge too. there's also a launch in westlake caller Riverside park on Smith Ferry road.

Peddle for you paddle for most of us. One day I'll have the cadillac of the yaks. :-)

I think its good that you started with a paddle. You will appreciate the Mirage drive that much more once you get one.
