Default Hog Island/Deep Bayou 7-23

Set out in a semi-marsh worthy boat around 6:15. Caught a few flounder near where we launched at Hog Island, but by 9:00, the wind was too much. We decided to try Deep Bayou from the roadside, and kept 4 specks, and a red. Probably threw back 20 dink reds. It felt like a good day because we had meat at the end of it, but I'm still waiting for that first limit. Had a blast.

The red was 19" and just over 3 pounds. Good eatin size. The flounder ranged from just under, to just over a pound. The trout were 12-13". Not world beaters, but a fun day. Caught most of this on popping corks with live shrimp. Caught a bundle of those shrimp stealin ladyfish too. I think that's what they are called.

If you catch a ladyfish, that is not too big.....use it as live bait to catch a big Speck. Or cut up the bigger ones and put a chunk on a hook.

Best redfish bait. N trout were ripping them to shreds at the beach a few weeks back

Do you fish ladyfish the same way as mullet? Well, I guess that's kid of an open question since they can be fished so many ways. Are they best live, cut, on a double drop leader etc.?

Bounce

Hog island launch is off of hwy 27 going to Cameron which is exit 20 off I-10. Past spicers and before west cove. Deep bayou is prolly somewhere close to there. Never fished it. Just drive your truck in every bayou around there and when u sink over the cab it's prolly a deep bayou... Lol... Jj idk where deep bayou is

Deep Bayou is just past Johnson's Bayou toward Texas. Turn north for a few miles and you're there. We fished on the roadside, past the boat launch.
