Default Hoping to move back to Louisiana

Since Colorado has legalized weed, my family is considering moving to a state that still has some sense. It can only get worse from here with more and more voters smoking pot.

Anyone know of any job openings in Louisiana for a MathGeek/Physicist/Engineering type? The closer to great saltwater fishing, the better.

My CV is here:

My wife having a job would also get us to LA. She's more of a biomechanical engineer, but also has considerable math skills. Her CV is here:

I just fell out of my chair, especially knowing and serving with several Air Force Academy Grads.

Thanks, I googled it up and found two chemical engineer jobs. My engineering skills are more mechanical than chemical, and I've also worked as an RF test engineer and done a lot of programming and instrumentation work. I don't think I'm a viable candidate as a chemical engineer, but I appreciate the lead and it's always a good idea to visit a big employer's web site to get a feel for regional opportunities. Westlake Chemical seems like it would be a great place to work.

Wow! I appreciate that, but the Houston and New Orleans areas are the two places along the gulf coast that are definitely out. My family and I are in agreement that the bigger cities are not where we want to be. I went to high school in NO and visited Houston enough to know that It's not where I want to raise my children. Of course, avoiding the big cities makes the job search more challenging.

Lake Charles, Thibodaux, Lafayette are just about right! Baton Rouge is kinda marginal, getting to be too big and a pretty good drive from good inshore and saltwater fishing, though my wife has recently applied for a faculty position there.

Man, with a resume like that, you should be able to go to about any of them!

I didn't even know MIT was a real place...I just thought they made it up to make the guy on Armegeddon sound real smart! LOL

Over here, on the east side, there is likely an equal number of oil and chem plants, away from the big city. I'm sure one or more of them would be glad to pick you up!

Have you been to the Woodlands area? That is where MikedaTiger lives (myself as well), I live on two acres, and have deer in my back yard every morning. The schools in this area are far better than what you are going to find in the cities you mentioned and the pay difference for you will be 20% to 50% more than what you are going to find in the other areas you discussed. My mother lives in Baton Rouge and she thinks that she is "in the country" when she comes to my house. Yet I am still only 30-40 minutes from downtown Houston (and 20 minutes from the airport) if I ever decided to go there which I never do. Also the Woodlands is usually rated as one of the top places to live in most studies that you look at. Plus if you love trees the area is beautiful.

Most people avoid Houston because they went to the Galeria, downtown, Galveston, or the east side of the city. Up north is an entirely different ball game. If I had to live on the east side or inside the loop I'm sure I would hate it. Galveston has to be one of the dirtiest coastal towns I have been to. At this point in my career I could move anywhere in the country and do well but we are very comfortable here.

I will retire and live in Hackberry....

Very good stuff by you and your wife. Based on your published works and your background I am sure that you can find work. There is a lot of work going on right now in the chemical industry with regards to measurement by sound. I am listing a few places that have a major facility in either the Beaumont, TX area or Lake Charles Area.

Citgo
Phillips 66
PPG chemical
Chevron
Exxon Mobil
BASF
Shell Motiva
Huntsman chemical
Total petrochemical
Dow chemical
Flint Hills
Dupont Chemical
Koch
Invista

There are also countless engineering firms in the area.

Cabot Corporation is a world wide leading manufacture of Carbon Black, not to mention a world class safety organization.
We have several facilities in south LA, please explore, hopefully a fit can be made.
