Default Good gps card.

Hey guys. I just purchased a lowrance elite 4 for my yak. The gps on the unit isn't very detailed. Can anyone recommend a good gps map available on a sd card?? I did a little online research but I'd like to hear some opinions on this. Thanks.

Nvm I found it. I'm guessing the model for the lowrance elite 7 would work for the elite 4.

Call and ask first, I thought the Elite 4 was also supported.

Better call and make sure. According to the website they support the elite 7 and 5 so not sure if it will work in the elite 4??

I almost bought one of these until I figured out the Navionics app on my iphone had more detail than what is provided on Lowrance. For example, the old jetties in Calcasieu lake are not found on the Lowrance software. Garmin's card had better detail and showed the jetties. I'm told that the Navionics platinum plus card has good detail but I haven't seen any examples.

You are talking apples and oranges. The standard mapping card is an add on made specifically for Lowrance and Simrad units. It is way more detailed than the mapping you get out of the box and that includes the Navionics.

I had a Garmin with the bluechart g2 and it didn't come close to what you see on the standard mapping cards. When I am in the marsh and driving around on water my unit shows I am on water. Not land like it did a lot of the time with the g2.

Bought the SM card for VB about a month ago. Great detail, but the best part is that the outside reefs, for the most part, show up. Maybe not as good as the much talked about card that cost $500+ and is only for Garmin, but pretty darn good as far as I'm concerned.

And yes, when it shows you're in water, you're actually in water unlike the Navionics Gold card.

I have the "reef chip" for VB to sell; came out of a 100 series Garmin, PM if interested.
