Pogie or shad. Artificial when it warns up.

Buffalo cut up in chunks or catfish heads. Also herron, pogie, or shad.

Really, water conditions dictate what type of bait used...temp, current, etc...

My father-in-law put out a minnow trap last year baited with bread and a leftover chicken leg. The creek we put the trap in turned out to be a honey hole for crayfish. He put the trap in a few more times using only bread and continued to catch them until the water level in the creek was too low to cover the trap.

Beef melt works but they eat it to fast. If you are catching a bunch u need something that will stay in the trap. I helped a old craw fisherman one season he would put one piece of fish pogie or carp the two pieces of that hard artificial. He told me if u just put fish they will eat it to quick and start eating themselves.

This bait reminds me of cattle cake really. I'm not real sure where you'd find it in ill.
