Default VBay 12/12

Hit the water hoping for a spectacular spectacle. Cove at dawn, nothing. Marsh Island east, water was a bit dirty but managed a few reds. ran back to the point. LDO Reef was packed so i passed on that. Mud point, nothing. squeaked out a few more reds in weeks bay. Everywhere i went, nobody was catching.

Ended up with 10 reds total only 4 made the box. no pics, i gave em to an elder couple fishing at the state park.

I hope someone caught a spec!

I ran outside Thursday and found some great water without any fish in it. No birds working, no bait. Fished Caldwell and Tete Butte. If they ain't on Caldwell on a falling tide where are they? Must be in the middle. Heard from a guy that has been trawling out there 20 years. Said it was the first time he ever caught trout in his trawl in the middle of the bay. I am gonna have to start fishing platforms. Anyone fish the Dry Reef structure lately? Trout trouble me like women.

Every time I pass all those dry reef structures I tell myself I just need a couple days to pick them apart, and just keep on going instead of making that day "the day". Hopes of limits at my confidence spots further out keep me from short stopping.

I went Saturday and caught 17, bite was over by 9, fished cove weeks, hammock and TP...water is good everywhere..little murky at Hammock due to stiff east wind...went solo on Sunday and caught 10, Dude drifted over spot where I was catching and shut bite down...caught them by 8:00, left at 9...one kayak limited trolling, anyone else I talked to had 3 or less...buddy went to reefs...good water but no fish.

Got an early jump on it Saturday AM with a four man crew. Bad omens to start the day:

1. One guy slept in... we rang the doorbell a couple dozen times to get him up.

2. The bridge was out on the way to ICY. Had to turn around and take the long way.

3. Launched the boat and the battery died. No problem, cuz I've got two new trolling motor batteries. Swapped it out, and we were good to go.

4. Went to catch bait at Redfish point. Normally we pull in a bucket full of shrimp, croakers, and finger mullet this time of year. Caught about 20 pogie. Nothing that was decent bait.

5. Worked into Lake Fearman, nada.

6. The wind was worse than predicted. And SouthEast. Nothing is worse than SouthEast. We had to fight some decent chop to get outside of the pass, but we made it there. Fished the protected reefs.

7. Caldwell, nothing. Pavy, nothing. TButte, too rough. Worked the holes around the island, nothing. Not one damn fish in the boat by noon. Hauled it back to the landing.

All in all, beautiful day drinking some beers in the sun with some good friends. The fishing couldn't have been any better. Next I'll work on catching.
