Which boat would be fastest with 30hp ?
My question is what size and hull would be fastest. 14x48 or 15x52 and semi V or Flat bottom ??? |

The smaller and lighter the faster, so 14x48 will be fastest. I can't speak on v or flat being faster, but my guess is a V is slightly faster in most cases.

I'm not sure about speed. My thing is, you're not racing. I'd go 1552 semi for comfort. One comment on motor. Great choice, but are you going to re-badge as a 25?

If you are putting the new 30 hp four stroke I would go with the 1552. I have a 1448 with that motor and that's a lot of weight in the back. The motor is badass though!

That's all I'm worried about is speed. That's why I asked. But thanks for your input.

That is one of the things I was worried about. I think it weighs about 160 pounds.

Well unless something has changed you can't take that motor to the burns. It's a 25hp marsh. Anything more you will get ticketed.

Ok thanks for your input but the question was about the boat.

With me, 2 other men and duck hunting gear it pushes the boat 28.5 mph. I had to put some hook in it to get it to run without bouncing. Bottom line is if I had the choice of hulls, I would go with the 1552. Honestly it will probably run the same if not better on that size boat |

Then you shouldn't have put "the burns" in your original post. You knew people would comment on you intentionally wanting to break the rules.

I agree. I don't care what you do. I was just letting you know. Was looking out for you and your best interest. Sorry for butting in. By the way there is a lot of game wardens on here. I know a few of them. So just be careful what you post. Have a nice day Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Alweld builds a great boat, BUT, if all you care about is speed, that is not the boat for you. I had a 1552 AlWeld marsh special, not a rocket. The AlWeld was the most comfortable riding boat, but definitely not the faster hull.

There is always more potential for more speed with the smaller, lighter boat. V hull or flat bottom wont matter much, because only the back 1/3 or so if the hull is in the water at top speed. Acceleration from zero will be faster with a flat bottom.
The challenge with a boat a bit lighter than a motor is designed for is optimizing the motor to get all the potential top end speed out of it. You're more likely going to be having to adjust the trim and prop pitch "just right". And "just right" for one way of loading the boat is less likely to be "just right" for another loading of the boat. I know the OP may not care, but since these threads have a lot of lurkers, for their benefit, I'll recommend the 15x52 with v-hull. You may lose a couple mph of top end speed, but you still have plenty of power and speed, and you'll also have less sensitivity to loading, prop pitch, and trim, and greater controllability and stability at speed. Asking the question suggests a certain lack of experience, and that lack of experience can cause problems when the power is mismatched to he hull. |

Not sure if you are aware but you can't take a 30hp motor to the burns. :*****:

I looked at the Tohatsu website and the 25hp and 30hp are the same motor with different ECU. So yes I'm going to buy a 25hp.

I was hoping to find something lighter buy it looks like everyone is using 100guage. Do you know of a fast hull that wont break the bank ?
