Google Map Area Calculator-HELP
Here is the issue. I own land and my neighbor wants to lease a section of his property to me. His section is 3000' in width and 2900' in length. The land deed states it is more/less 206 acres. Using the Heron's Formula, I calculate it to be 209 acres. Using the Laws of Cosines, I calculate it to be 209 acres. Using the old time Farmer's tool (L x W divided by 43560') I get 199 acres. All formulas produce a reasonable margin. Now, when I use the area calculator from Google, I am getting less than a total area of 75 acres. Can someone please explain what this dumb a$# cajun is doing wrong. Thanks to all for taking time to help! |

I don't know if your looking to be spot on or just fairly close to your corners but I have drawn maps in the past using google maps and can transfer it to my phone through google earth when I'm in the woods and needing to stay on the property line or find the corner when I get off track. Not sure if that helps any but good luck.. Also when drawing the lines it shows the distance of how long your line is so if you know how many ft are in a mile then you can go from there and end up with the correct acreage drawn out.

I use it on my farm all the time, and it is pretty accurate. Not sure what you could be doing wrong though, it's pretty easy to use.

Google Map Area Calculator-HELP
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/draw/
Click the ruler in the bottom left hand corner. Then select the box. Draw lines around the property lines it will highlight the area between the lines and give you the acreage. Doesn't seem to work on my phone. I use it on computer all the time. |

There are 43,560 square feet in an acre.
L x W= area 3000 ft. x 2900 ft. = 8,700,000 sq. ft./43,560 =199.7 acres This can be used to find the area, thus the acreage on any piece of property that is square or rectangle. Other formulas are used to find area for a triangle, circle, or something four sided, with different lengths of the sides. I would say this is the most accurate for calculating the acreage, if the l and w are correct. The others were you lay out the lines will get you close, but not accurate, imo.
