Haha, like I said, with the loans me and the ole lady have, I just feel that money ought to be spent elsewhere, not on dekes. As much as I really, really, REALLY want to, just can't bring myself to do it. I've got good dekes, they are just faded all to hell. One of em is so white, you need sunglasses to look at them. Ask ole cajunsteelsetter about that.

I may have a few as well. But it is fun to paint them. I touch a few up every yr.

Flat black works great. Killer on gray ducks! Just throw a few pintail drakes in for contrast

See I would love to repaint these dekes one day, but All the different shades can get a bit expensive. I've got a good mix of species, so makes it difficult to paint them all up the way they were. Maybe one day... |

Get some cheap acrylic paint (them little bottles about 1$ a piece) and some matte clear coat. The deeks will have just enough sheen on them to make them look realistic.

Go to hobby lobby and look for the cheap air brush paints then clear coat over it.

FYI U can get a bottle of red, blue, and yellow acrylic paint in the crafts section and mix every color yourself, use a bit of white or black also (about 5-6$). A 4$ can of matte clear (not flat, you want matte so they have enough sheen to look realistic). If you aren't familiar mixing up colors then look at a color wheel online and it will help you mix the colors you want.
I use the matte clear and the decoys don't look dry and one dimensional, the extra sheen gives them a look as if the duck just came out the water...its not a shiny look. |
