Kayak rod

Looking to develop a rod specifically for kayak fishing.

So tell me about your favorite kayak rod:

Rod length, handle length, action, etc....

I have some 6' 6"Castaway wader blanks that I think will make a great yak rod.

Shorter length is not necessary for kayaks. I use 7' mostly. If you can develop a rod that floats then I think you would be on to something!

Second thought, if you can make a rod that increases casting distance while sitting down...that would be a good selling point.

I use mostly 6'6" and 6'8". I find the handles on the 7 footers are often too long. My main rods are the Duce 6'8" baitcaster and the TFO 6'6" spinning. Both medium. You're probably going to get so many different opinions it's going to be difficult to come up with a "one rod fits all" kayak angler rod. Good luck to you!

I agree on the "one rod fits all", I just want to have something that better fits the kayak fishing style.

I know most guy's like the shorter handle for yak and wading, but how short? 7"

7-10 inch should be good. Any thing over 10 is probably too long.

For me I need a 7 foot rod so I can easily go around the front of my 14' kayak. Also a short handle is a huge plus.

X2 on making a floating rod!
I'm not a fan of the leashes bc I don't need another thing to get my hook tangled up in. I found these and have one on each of my rods.

I agree with the shorter handle and the microguides for longer casting distance. I use a custom made 7' with 8" handle with flouro and a 6'9" spinning rod for braid with flouro leader. Neither of my rods float, which is how I ended up with custom, short handle, microguide model
