Have you looked at the Hustler Raptor 42. Bought one last year at Langlinais tractor in Abbeville. Welded deck, 22hp Kohler. No issues so far, have 10 hrs on the mower.

Honestly, these mowers named are all good mowers. If you take care of your equipment and do regular maintenance they all should turnout to be great mowers. I know the bad boy has grease certs for the deck and wheels, and is pretty much all greaseable. Not sure about the gravely or hustler. Look for simple things like that to help determine.

I run a John deere 42 with the briggs. I wanted the kawasaki, but john deere ended their contract with them. I have 45 hrs on the mower and have had no issues. Regular oil changes and run atleast once a week even during off season. It's greaseable and fairly easy to work on. I like my mower and have been a john deere fan for sometime, but like i said the mowers you are looking at are great mowers too.

I had a commercial gravely for a long time and it was a good mower. I have a commercial toro now and I probably liked the gravely a little more. Check out the big dog mowers too. I have heard good things. They sell them at Abbeville snapper

I bought the Commerical Gravely compact which is a 35" I think...about 6 months ago. No complaints so far. It is a grass cutting machine.

big dog
i have a big dog mower 24hp kawasaki, 42" deck less than 20hrs, i wish i would have gotten one a little bit bigger, two things i don't like about it, deck doesn't stick out past the rear tires, and the deck sometimes will get caught on uneven ground in reverse when cutting low, had to bring it to the shop to get the belts put back on but hasn't happened again since
bjhooper if you want to take it for a test ride we can make something happen i am in broussard youngsville area, if you have a utility trailer i can bring it by and you can cut your grass with it see how you like it |

I have had a commercial Gravely mower for about 10 years now. I just went over 300 hrs this past fall and as others have said, all listed are great mowers. Change oil, oil filters, air filter and blades as needed and you should be good for a very long time. The Gravely dealer in Lafayette has been in the Top 5 Gravely dealerships in the country for the last 15 years or so.
What ever you get make sure it has an hour meter on it. |

I have a 60 inch big dog cutting 5 acres with 150 tuff hrs on it. No complaints and no problems so far. Sold a diesel kubota because it stayed in the shop. It was in the shop twice before 20 hrs. I know kubota is supposed to be the best but i probably got a bad one. Oh and it was only 5k compared to 13k for kubota.

I bought a new ZTR last year... after a lot of research I ended up going with a Ferris
Seemed like the value for the options I was looking for was better in the Ferris. |

Bad Boy is an awesome machine. I have the Outlaw Extreme with 31 hp Kawasaki...knock out 4 acres in no time. Congress outdoor was my dealer in Lafayette...no longer sales them however still service. The Bad Boy is heavy duty.... to me it would be worth the 45 minute drive to pick one up and service it locally...

You can pick up most parts at tractor supply. They sell a couple models.

Thanks for all the opinions and comments fellas. I had a Bad Boy Outlaw Extreme with a 31 horse Kawasaki but just sold it recently. I was cutting 3 acres with it but sold the property and now only cutting 3/4 of an acre and it was just way more mower than I needed for that little of property. I loved everything about it and want to go with another bad boy but like I said earlier, the nearest dealer is in New Iberia since Congress stopped selling them here in Lafayette. Southland is literally 1 mile from my house at most, that's why I'm looking at gravely pretty hard. They are only $200 difference in price but the bad boy has a welded deck as opposed to the stamped deck on the gravely. Now, I know the stamped deck on the gravely isn't your everyday stamped deck, it's much more solid than that. I'm going to make the trip to new Iberia tomorrow and check out the bad boy. Thanks again guys!
