night fishing

My parents use to live on the west fork in moss bluff. they have a 24' party barge just sitting up ruinning. well i was talking to my step dad today and we want to make a night fishing trip to big lake this summer. My question is this.

What is the best lighting to use? I use the clamp on lights from wally world and inverters at toledo..I have a endless supply of batteries. would this be bright enough for specks. it lights up the water pretty good. Or the generator? i would think the noise would scare the fish

also What would be a good spot to set up on something like this. a reef or what maybe outside the wiers (don't think the pontoon will make it through...lol)



We just want to park up put the lights on and start emptying the ice chest of cold drinks. and filling the live well.. We are gonna make a test run as soon as it warms up enough.... thought it would be fun and the boat holds a good bit of people if anyone wants to go i think it will hold at least 8 comfortably. its rated for 12 i think but don't know about 12 fishing.

They used to sell some lights that were actually sealed headlights in a floating plastic ring.....came with some Gator clips to hook to battery's. .....I think Gen would be to loud unless its a Honda......

I got some "floating" lights, with the gator clips. These are sealed, and have styro-foam around them

fool this one is still on the trailer at cypress lake....its just a party barge now but i'm fixing to start working on it getting in back in shape and put some lights on it

Ahh, well swing by Parkside when ya come down, and go look at that boat (actually looks like an old shrimp boat that they re-built) you'll get an idea for your lighting. Or i can take some pics for ya, i plan on running down there tomorrow anyways to buy some more shinners

so the floating ones would be better than several just shined on the surface of the water

I have built a couple of these for friends. i use a honda 5500 watt generator and 8 -400 watt sodium vapor HI lights.
3 on each side of the party barge and 1 on each end,
If you put the generator on some soft rubber matting it wont vibrate to bad . You can mount switches for the lights on the console so that if you only have 2 or 3 people fishing you can just run the lights on one side.
If you decide to build it let me know and i can help you w/ the electrical; part of it .

When I worked offshore in Breton Sound, we would go out on the crew boat at night to fish. We used two large parking lot type lights and kept the on board generators going. Some nights we couldn't bait the lines fast enough. The noise on the boat didn't seem to bother the fish out there. I bought a 1200 watt gen today to use when I go out this year for the work lights that I have. A 500 and 300 watt set of lamps to hang over the side of the boat. I think the choice is based on the needs. There are pros and con's to both.

I think the automotive light in the molded styrofoam should be brighter than the 100 watt bulb. But any light is better than no light. As long as you can attract the bait fish to it.

Here is the deal, they will likely run all night with just a couple batteries and they can be submerged (no heat)

look up the website, goatro and I thought about this just this week, maybe mounting a couple on a piece of starboard or something

i have 2 1000watt inverters so i should be able to putt about 18 to 20 of them up....would have to bring alot of batteries though would probly drain them pretty quick

how about if you mounted one of these on a inch and a half piece of pvc then mounted the pipe on the boat as to put the light over the water but still in the air to help project the light a little farther. Kind of like outriggers

I use a honda generator with two tripod work station light's. Each work station has two 500 watt flouresent lights.This has worked excellent for many year's.I' ve found that the green tinted lens work the best.
