Salt away for flushing motor?

I was thinking about getting some salt away and the mixing bottle to try and clean my water passages on a 99 Yamaha 90hp 2 stroke, when I look inside the Thermostat hole I see a rust colored build up on the walls that I can scratch off with my fingernail. The reason I am wanting to do this is I am getting an overheat alarm only at high rpms above 4400. I have changed every part possible and still have problem. Does anyone have any experience with this product good or bad? And would I be wasting my time?

I have a 96 Yamaha 90 and had the same problem. Over about 4,000 rpm the buzzer would go off. Removed the water jacket, scraped the junk out of it, and put it back on. No problem since.

After every trip run that stuff through the engine and also spray down anything that can rust on the boat.

The salt away is to prevent corrosion....won't do much for corrosion already built up.

Their infomercial says otherwise, but who knows how much truth there is to it.

I use it on my Yammy 250, boat, reels, trailer, and underside of my truck...works great.

I have half of 55 gallon drum that I can trim the motor down I filled with anti freeze and i put a tube in the pisser back to the drum and let motor idle for 15 min and I change it about 1 a year the boat mechanic said it would take out any salt and also keep any thing from freezing

This is actually what I use. I use the same applicator when I wash down my boat with fiberglass cleaner as well. Really can see the difference in the hull after. Think I use Star brite hull cleaner.

Take off the the cover plate on the head and then you can clean the water jacket that's underneath as someone posted earlier. All you need to buy is a new gasket and some RTV. Also you can check your thermostat or change it while you're at it. I had to do this to my motor a year or 2 ago.

The best way to get salt out of your engine is to get a large 50 gal clean trashcan. Put 4 gallons of regular white viniger in it and fill the trashcan with water. Run your motor in the solution at idle for about 15- 20 minutes. You will be amazed at what comes out and ends up on the bottom of the trashcan. Once you have done this flush dump that out and refill with clean water. Add some dawn dishwashing soap to the clean water, don't make it sudsy, and run motor for about 5-10 minutes to neutralize the viniger.

I tried the vinegar but no luck, still having same problem. I borrowed a infrared gun and will go see if engine is really overheating or just getting false alarm.

I never had good success cleaning corrosion build up with any type of flush. You will have to take the head and water jacket cover off and clean it real good in a parts washer. I have seen some so bad that the only way to clean it was to sand blast it. Did you check the thermostat? On a carb motor I would get rid of the thermostat all together. They are useless in south louisiana. You can't just take the whole thing out,the backing plate needs to stay in the housing. To do that take some cutting pliers and gut the thermostat taking the spring and metel arms that hold the spring in place off.

yes we already did that, all i have is a metal plate with hole in it for thermostat.

How do you use salt away? I flush my motor each time by hooking the hose up to it and running it awhile. How would I use the Salt away....in a trashcan?

Does it matter if your motor is 2 stroke or four?
