Default Ar-15 / shotgun help!!!

Give me your choice considering the two - These will be home defense along with if the SHTF - especially for after Nov. elections.

1)
AR-15 (5.56/.223) - no need for a crazy expensive gun just a reliable YET affordable rifle. Iron sights would be prefered, woud like to upgrade to a red dot type optic later (eotech, trijicon etc). Mass produced guns okay but want quality and price to go hand in hand.

2)

SBS shotgun- leaning towards the 870 tactical

No crazy 1800 to 2000 dollar ar's please just need some help in getting best bang for buck.

Now Gun Nuts please help!

Not many people will use an AR-15 for home defence with the amount of wall penetration they have.

ar 15 longer range, cheap ammo! I'd go with a bushmaster and thats the lowest end ar I'd buy! the red jacket ones are very good, regardless of what your perspective of the show is, they make good guns. I had a DPMS, and my opinion of it was they skimped on quality to make a more affordable product, hard to tell untill it keeps breaking on you when shooting with it.

Not for home defense but family defense...

Spikes tactical, Daniels Defense, Rock River etc...

see a lot of DMPS around but worried about quality

Bushmaster M4 Carbine is my camp gun. Also have AK47 for SHTF. As for shotgun, SAIGA 12 and Stoeger coach gun are good choices, however Mossberg makes a good line of home defense shotguns.

Just bought my first ak and love it....eff a 556 I now know that If I got to put holes in someone I want it to be a 762...mine is getting tact out to the max just waiting for all my after markets to come in...got ar stock...quad rail extended fore grip new hogue pistol grip vertical foregrip flashlight and optics on the way...ill have about 900 in the gun when it's all put on and I think that's a hell of a price for a bad azz battle rifle that's not to mention the most reliable one ever built...I cleaned mine out the box and sent 200 rounds of cheap steel case ammo down range last weekend and not one issue.

I have a SW with an eotech 512 on it. I really like it. It shoots well and I've never had a problem with it.

I've found the S&W M&P-15 is the best buy for your money. 870 is cheep but reliable and your best bet for home defense.
