Default 05/25/13 Nuttin but Hardheads.

I took my wife and sister fishing and crabbing yesterday in hopes of getting my sister on some reds. After heading out around 6 and after stopping for gas in Westlake, the ATM in the old Walmart parking lot in Sulphur, Fishermans Headquarters for turkey necks and then finally back up to Cajun Fastmart for my wife some breakfast. While I was looking at the baits with my sister my mouth fell open because I remembered all my tackle was back in Moss Bluff at my house. Well back to Moss Bluff we go. After all that we made it to our first stop at 9 o'clock in Kelso Bayou. After fishing and crabbing for close to 45 min and only catching hard heads and no crabs we started moving around. We tried the salt ditch then down to Hog Island Gully. Once again a strike out. Nothing at all. We did manage to get stuck on a mud flat letting my wife use the bathroom. We tried heading farther south but my wife didn't like waves coming from Big Lake we was having to cross. We turned around and headed back north. Next stop Joes Cove and once again HARDHEADS and one little crab. All I saw was Hardheads being caught. We tried the ship channel with same results, HARDHEADS. Made a stop at the park by Ellender Bridge for the women a bathroom break. Next stop mouth of the Salt ditch and the same results, HARDHEADS. Made one more stop in Kelso Bayou which produced nothing. We finally admitted defeat and headed back to Spicers to load the boat. I have never seen a trip where you couldn't pay a crab to bite your bait but this was a first. No box shot of the hardheads as they were released to torment somebody else. Hopefully Tuesday is better when I take my wife and kids fishing and crabbing.

You weren't alone, we couldn't get a bait in the water without it getting attacked by hardheads. And they ate everything we tossed in the boat at 'em...shrimp on jigs, under popping corks, plastics, hard baits, etc. We did manage to squeak out a few non-hardhead type fish, but not much else on the menu apparently.
