Default First time to LA

Hey guys I hate to be the new guy/non-local but I'm headed to LA (Avery Island area, I think ) for the first time and really want to bring my yak with me and get some fishing done. I usually fish in FL/AL so I'll be out of my element for sure. From the research I've done it looks like Cypremort Point State Park is the closest area I could target reds or trout from but everything I've read says it will probably be straight fresh water. I can adapt to that too but I figured I'd get y'alls opinions or advice if it's not imposing. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

They have a launch at Avery island too. Google earth it and yak it up, beautiful area around Avery island and you can get long legged and go down to the ICW from there then into weeks bay

The point is a good place to launch too, the trout are pretty much gone til next fall, but you should be able to hooks one reds on the right days. Paddle down the canal from the launch, and you'll see rocks to the left, fish all that area. Past the rocks will be camps to fish, and the other way will be a beach then sharks bayou.

Dead Shrimp for Reds. Can't be beat if your looking to catch. I always start out with artificials but have shrimp in the boat for just in case.

Thanks guys! I'm pumped to give it a shot. I'll try to take some pics if I can manage to catch a few. Also I'll give those ponds a check, sounds like it could be like the childhood days of sneaking on golf courses haha.

I like Cajun Gun and Tackle in New Iberia. Pack and Paddle in Lafayette has a few unique plastics.

corner station is awesome if you are passing through broussard. They have just about everything for bass you would need, plus a decent saltwater selection

Absolutely, they got the goods. And you'd never expect it when you walk in! Love that place

If you go to corner store, don't skip builleauds across the street for boudin and cracklins. The brother of David Billeaud (TCoon from Troutmasters) owns it

Before trying the ponds you better do some asking......I think they are considered Private.

Well I'm back from my time off and I wish I had a better report for y'all. Managed to get out last Thursday and fish the areas y'all gave me but couldn't quite get it figured out. Ended up with a skunk after being chased off by the wind at the point. That being said though I couldn't have enjoyed my time down there more. Absolutely beautiful territory down there and I met some of the nicest people I've ever come across. Y'all really do have something special down there and I hope I get the chance to make it back down soon.

Think it was nice now? Come back in a month. Spring in Louisiana is amazing. Fish are biting, everything is turning green, crawfish are turning on and the weather is perfect.
