Collins is all the way down in Golden Meadow

$45 for a 110lb sack
$30 for a half sack

I bought 2 sacks Christmas Eve, they were the best Oysters I have eaten in years.

I'm stopping there and getting a sack after work. How many people can a sack feed and how long do they last iced down in an ice chest?

Depends if you get a large sack or a half sack

I fill up 2 48 quart ice chest almost to the top with a large sack of oyster and ice.

As far as how many people you can feed, that's a loaded question. Me and a good friend of mine sat got to schucking one day on the tailgate and ate a sack of oyster by oursleves. Typically from a large sack of oysters you will get about 3/4- 1 gallon of actual oysters.

When I was a kid my dad would get oysters all the time, he left them under the car port for up to 4 or 5 days at a time and they were still good as long as the temps don't get above 55 or so and you keep them out of the sun. Iced down in a ice chest they can probably go 2 weeks.

Don't mean to insult you and I'm sure you already know this, but make sure you pull the plug on the ice chest otherwise your oysters will be very upset.

This thread is making me homesick, our Pensacola eastbay oysters (deamed the best in the world), I sh*% u not lol, went away since the BP fiasco. Local oyster supplies say it's just a natural 15yr cycle but who knows?

I disagree w/ "best in the world", BIG OL' La salty oysters are bar none, the best I've ever had.

Suck em' up, cook'em well and be thankful for what you have in your own backyard!

Jimmy

From the Houma Center looking at McDonalds come out of the parking lot and take a right. Go over the Dularge Overpass, cross the Houma Navigational Canal Bridge and it will be less than a quarter mile on your right.
