Default We decided to try garlic

We took one of our lil garden beds and hopefully turned it into a garlic patch. Here is what we did and here is hoping for a stinky spring.

So if I understand correctly..... you went to the grocery store and bought some garlic. Then you separated the "pods" and planted them.

I might try this. I have most of my Fall garden planted, but I can find a little space to put a few in the ground. How deep did you plant them?

My "spring" planted bell peppers are doing very well now that the weather is not in the mid 90's every day. Zucchini and Yellow squash are in the ground and I have some more Yellow squash and Cucumbers plants growing and ready to put in the garden.

My tomatoes did poorly during the spring/summer, but they look like they still have some life left in them.... ie. have a few flowers and small tomatoes so I have left them to see what they will do this fall.

I have also been picking up leaves and pine needles with the lawn mower to cover the garden to help stop the weeds from growing. Almost finished with this "Part" of the fall planting.

You only plant deep as the top of the clove but just remember garlic is a 9 month crop....

Yea buba is right they take a long time das why ya plant em in august to have all winter to grow. You can go to a big lot store and buy expensive heirloom cloves of garlic for as much as 10$ for a clove or just buy the ones you normanlly buy and plant those,

Garlic sure is slooooow to grow we only have a few little shoots showing. Maybe todays rain will give them a boost. I am beginning to fret over them kinda like when ya plant okra seeds.

I've done had garlic go about 3-4 weeks before they pop out the ground...I don't make but 2 -40 foot rows now so I quit grow'n them...I might try a few in a half barrel just for the fun of it...The smaller the head the harder to peel but the stronger the garlic.....

Note to self do not drink beer while planting Garlic!

I got impatient and went to checking on them. Some were missing some were planted upside down and some were way too deep. I hadda laugh at Peg who was helping me replant some and check on them. After finding several way too deep I said "I guess I dont know how long my pointy finger is" "I DO!" She giggled. Maybe this time they will grow and it aint too late. It sure got hot once the sun got up good and the humidity is already creaping up.
