Default Hunt test pass/fail ratio?

Hey guys, I've been looking at Bayou Labradors for a while and was almost positive I would be getting a pup from them. I saw their site and everyone seemed to be pleased. The dogs look great along with their pedigrees. Recently, however, I came across Chopper's (the sire) pass/fail ratio on his hunt test and it didnt look good what so ever. The site is https://www.entryexpress.net/LoggedI...aspx?mdi=39617 and if you dont want to create an account to see it if you dont have one, [TABLE="width: 100%"]

This will be my first dog and also new to training. Is this something I should be worried or cautious about before deciding on them? They seem to be great people with a great business, this just worried me a little. Also, any other reccomendations on breeders for chocolate labs if this is a problem? If not chocolate, any color would be fine. And yes, I know blacks and yellows may be better to some, I would just prefer a chocolate if possible.

Post or PM their website, I'll check entryexpress to findout who the trainer is/was. AKC hunt test are a big step up from UKC test and it may or may not be the dog. I will PM you my Opinion of the stud but remember it's only my opinion nothing more or less.

Where are you located? What training program do you plan to use? Have you contacted any trainers in your area for possible help? Do you have any idea where you want to go training wise with this dog?

Looks like they ran him in master when he wasn't ready. This does not mean he can't produce nice pups. I would say if you have any hesitation to move on. A better litter is always just around the corner.

There was a ton of $$$ spent on that dog to not put together 6 passes!!!! His ped is fairly common with nothing on the bottom. What's the dam's ped look like? I believe you can find more dog, even if you want a brown one. Look for a dog like you would a truck/boat/house, it's an expensive 10 year journey.

4 litters in Sept would be a red flag and the only one not sold out is as common as a backyard breeding. All of the dam's are only used as brood beotches. I will PM you a couple performance peds forsale tomorrow time permitting.

Okay sounds good

I live in Mandeville, LA and will be in Baton Rouge next year for college. I am looking at mike Lardy total retriever training right now. I have spoken to a few people in my area that contacted me through retrievertraining.net. I was invited to go to a hunt test and a field trial coming up sometime that I will be attending. One of them lives in baton rouge and offered to help anytime needed. He also said he would should me around and give me some good spots to train near the apartment complex I will be at. I am looking for a good hunting companion since I go by myself a lot and maybe participate in HT/FTs later down the road but that is not a necessity to have.

I have a lab from them that is 3 years old. Mine is not off of chopper. I hunted with a guy in arkansas a couple yrs a go that knew chopper he said he was a good dog but might not be GHRCH quality. My dog from them is a great hunter and companion, alot of people dont like chocolates for hunting but when people see my lab they work, they are always impressed. "Not bad for a chocolate" is what they say lol. I would go with them hands down if a chocolate dog is what i wanted. I dont run trials so u may have different standards than me.

I don't know you from Adam so i hope i don't come across the wrong way, but i would be very careful about bringing a young dog to school in B.R. When I was there I saw a few dogs that were run over because a roommate, drunk, etc left a gate open or let the dog out accidently. I also saw countless that were ruined because of the atmosphere, that being said i saw a couple that turned out ok. So just be careful.

Contact Chuck McCall at Chumac Kennels and ask him if you can come out and watch. Be honest with him, help out with throwing marks, cleaning kennels and basically ender yourself to him. It will pay big dividends when you get into trouble and need someone who knows how to get you out of a jam with your dog. You will throw more marks for the other dogs and think it's a waste but if you pay attention there is much you can learn sitting in the field watching other dogs being trained.
