I hear JT's was getting around $4.50 as well. We paid $3.00 from a farmer this past weekend.

Problem remains however, that the after lent price is increasing more and more. The time will come that the regular guy like myself, will be priced right out of the season. I mean, where is the ceiling? $4.50/lb for live crawfish-in March-is ridiculous. Are crawfish prices even regulated?

A lot of it is not the amount they are catching. Its the amount that is being shipped everywhere now adays.

Price is not regulated. Folks in Missouri are happy to get 3 lbs boiled w/ 1 potato and 1/2 ear corn for $20. Wholesalers can make more $$$ shipping mudbugs up north. So either we pay the price or they get shipped. I say ship em.

When I spent my days on the water in '09 we were LUCKY to catch 5 sacks a day on 250 traps! Now, the same 250 traps caught 28-30 sacks per day, seven days a week in May. Guess what, the prices were significantly less in May.

God bless the Louisiana crawfishers. I hope they make lots of $$$. I don't care what they cost. When I want crawfish, I'll gladly pay. It's tough making a living from the water.
If you want a better deal, write your legislature to reduce regulations on the seafood industry, not add more. |

I remember back in the day when I was a lil fart......27 - 30 cents a pound. My dad and uncle would drive to Breaux Bridge and come back with a truck bed full. Just dumped em in the back and threw ice on top. Boiled crawfish all day....walking backwards at the end of the day.
