I don't think it opens until Saturday. I probably won't get out there til next week.

I'm gonna try to hit it Sunday morning. I haven't been out there in at least 14 years.
The wind is supposed to be kinda high on Sat and Sun. I assume you can still get in from the Intracoastal? |

You can run down the intercoastal and go in through that side cut or there is a launch on the south side of the bridge as well.

I thought it opened on the 15th but haven't fished it in years
Heard it was starting to get good again since the Hurricanes Prolly give it a try this year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lacassine and other refuges open the 15th but Miami Corp fluctuates year to year, generally opening on a Saturday around the 15th. As far as being good, we catch a lot of fish. No where near the size of lacassine fish, but the fishing is good. I love being out there.

Is it still better to fish "the front" during the spawn?

I don't know. I normally fish wherever I feel like stopping the motor. The front (at least last year) does stay muddier at times, so I run til the water is clear and I gotta start fishing.

That makes sense too. I was overthinking it.

I had always heard the area south of the Gibbstown Bridge to be called "the front" and the Superior Canal called "the back".
Sorry for any confusion, fellers. |

I don't even remember what I used to throw out there, soft plastic-wise. Seems like it was smaller cotton-candy ring worms. ???
Might have to try the wacky worm, grass permitting... |

I used a lot of Weightless Flukes and spinnerbaits.

I hope to be out there tomorrow afternoon. My favorite place to fish for sac-a-lait is in the Superior Canal below Grand Lake. Superior Ditch, north of the Gibstown bridge is also good. Cross over the Intercostal and launch in the front of the Berns is good for chic-a-pin and bass. You can also launch before the Gibstown bridge, run the Intercostal, go into the Burns, hit the Superior Ditch and have some awesome fishing...both in the canal and the marshes that surround it. Good luck and be careful!

Yea,...been fishing there since my senior year in high school (1978...Go LaGrange Gators!!)...great bass fishing too...lots of luck on beetle spins...(black)...have caught lots of catfish and reds just fishing a dead shrimp off of the bottom where the canals meet the Superior just north of Grand Lake.

Yes. $40/ permit.
And they want you to apply two large permit stickers to your boat and one to your trailer. |
