Default Tip lines on EVERYTHING

Does this bother anyone else besides me?? For instance, I go to get some frozen yogurt from the local SELF SERVE yogurt shop. You know, the ones where you serve yourself from the dispensers on the wall. Go to check out, and boom: tip line. All the employee does is ring you up. I know, I know - just don't tip. But I am the type to put something on the line because I feel guilty if I don't. Have also been noticing tip lines at several other locations that aren't traditional tipping places, i.e. where one would sit down and be served (I fully understand its purpose there). I'm talking call in order type places. Are we going to start seeing tip lines at McDonalds? Gas stations? Movie theatres? Every eatery out there? You get the picture. In my humble opinion, they are playing on peoples' guilt, and it's not right!!!

It might just be that company that supplies the machine has a certain one they use for the food service industry. But I agree it is strange.

I run in to this problem everytime I go pick up food at roly poly. Another thing that gives me a complex is places like Izzo's. Technically they have to make your food as you go down the line.

It is a function on the machine. Once it is turned on it stays on. Often times it is preset that way when installed and the establishment just leaves it that way. I personally will not tip anyone in that situation. An actual waitress is different because the tips are part of their pay.

If only I worked for the local telecommunications giant!!!

But that may very well be the case that the machines are just programmed to do that, but they sho don't mind it!!! The best tho is hotel room service. You got your already over priced food. Then you got your convenience fee. Then you have your room service charge. Then on top of all of that, there's the tip line. Boom! $75 ribeye!!!

**Of course that's o.k. if it's on the company card**

Yeah I refuse to get room service. Eating in my room isn't that convenient that I want to spend $40 a person for breakfast

Owners either add a tip line or raise the price of their product as a way to keep up with rising prices. If I come across a tip line at an out of the ordinary place, boom: one bone. Places that are already pricy like Izzos or rude customer service, boom: no bone

The worst thing is going to a hotel that you spent all week looking for a good deal on...... For instance, Place St. Charles in DT NOLA......$129.99 a night....not bad! So I book it. When you get ther they tell you about the $8.95 a night resort fee, the $26 a day parking fee and the %10 hotel tax in NOLA. Ends up costing you close to a $180 a night. Then they want you tip the bell hop for bringing bags to your room, I can handle my overnight bag myself buddy...no thanks. I do tip the valet driver though.

I always tip on take out from a real restaurant because the server person who takes the order usually has to go back to the kitchen and organize your order, make sure the right stuff is in the right bag, etc... I usually leave them 10%.

I agree. I do the exact same thing, down to the same percentage. And that's because you are right, there is more to putting together an entree that has sides, bread. It takes some running around and usually more face time with the customer.

I also agree about tipping of bellhops. I wish they would just sit back and wait until someone asks for their help rather than pushing it on you.
