Trout...where?
what I want to know is what characteristics to look for when targeting trout and redfish. For example what does the bottom have to consist of, are you fishing points, looking for sudden changes in depth, are the changes subtle or severe, are you looking for structure and if so what types.....etc. I like finding my own fish, but I live too far away to fish consistently, so I am trying to help the learning curve between fishing trips and rule out unproductive water. |

Right now we are starting to get some bait finally moving in the lake....so if you find some bait fish are right there....also shallow reefs and flats are good.... Tide is a key as trout come up on flats with higher tides....you might even find a few birds picking...

If you're searching unknown waters, the answer would be "all the above" you just mentioned, process of elimination, It's a ****** when you when you can't go but just a few times a year, to find fish or new waters it sometimes takes alot of fuel & alot of time. What I learned on Big Lake in 9 months took alot time & fuel. I fished it dang near 4 days a week for 9 months, only because I worked their & staying in Hackberry, but still don't know nearly what I need too.
Same way with other places like Venice, stayed their for almost 2 years, learned through trial & error. Somedays the fish were here then next day they weren't, so what do I do now, look elsewhere, different bottom stucture, dropoffs, flats, points.......all goes back to process of elimination. |

Bait hides in rocks, grass and reefs. Not always, but a lot of times, this bait moves
out to feed right around daylight. When bait moves, big fish eat. Dock lights at night attract bait also. Fish come to the lights to feed on bait. Fish the lights an hour or so after dark, or fish reefs/rocks/grass and other structure right after daylight. It can be different when tides move, but finding bait is key to catching fish. |
