Default Teal limit going up

The central flyway (Texas) has approved a 6 bird limit for this season and an increase to a 3 day bag limit for possession. The owner of my waterfowl club in Texas sits on the Texas regulatory board that oversees wildlife regulations and is very connected. This word was passed down to him today. Look for something official over the next few weeks. Now you have to hope the Mississippi flyway does the same for Louisiana.

Good news.

Texas is the reason out mottled duck limit went down to 1. Their mottled duck harvest went down so their limit went down as did ours. Seems more of their mottled ducks are now calling Louisiana home.

So maybe we will adopt the teal limit!! Won't hurt us. I'm for our 1 mottle duck limit. Keep em repopulating. These guys know what they are doing. Louisiana is one of the few states that has summer mallard pops. It'll go back up in the next 3yrs

Great news Casey! Finally they do something with possession too. We should hear from the Miss Flyway very soon.

I would be shocked if the MISS flyway does not go with the 6 teal limit.

Hurricane Ike in 2008 decimated the mottled duck population on the East Tx coast and TP&W asked for the limit to be decreased. FYI, Mottled ducks don't migrate; hence the name "Summer Mallard". While I disagree with the need to change the limit in Louisiana, it's really not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. My only concern with increasing the limit will be the increased number of wood ducks and mottle ducks that will be shot by hunters that can't identify birds in the first 30 min of shooting.

Yea. Some people the limit change didn't affect. Some it did. In our case where we were hunting it did big time. We killed mainly mallards and mottled ducks. It was nice to be able to kill your 4 mallards and finish your limit with 2 mottleds beings there are no other ducks to fill your limit.
