I fish them with a slip weight. Easy to cast that way. Once I cast it out, I give about 3' slack and just let my bait fish swim freely. I don't use any more weight than the tide forces me to. Typically 1/2-1 oz.

Good statment.

I typically use less than 1/2 oz when fishing on the bottom. I put the weight about 12 to 18" from the hook. Also, I use a fairly small hook, which allows the live bait to swim around some.

I'm sure some use leaders but I don't.

Alright. Tomorrow is the big day. We are staying at Spicers and will either launch at Hog Island, or near the nature trail to hit the south end of West Cove due to the stiff south wind. Does either seem like a better bet in a 10-15 mph south wind? We got knocked around on the ship channel pretty good today, and would like to hide from wind as best we can.

And we were just running the boat around to see how it would handle today. Fished briefly with no success.
