Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge?s Unit 4 Concrete Structure to Close on Sunday at Sunset

Printable Version
Release Date: 03/16/2018

March 16, 2018 - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will close the Unit 4 concrete water control structure at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge on Sunday at sunset for upgrade construction. The structure is expected to be closed into the summer.

Once construction is complete, LDWF will re-open the control structure for public use.
During construction, users are asked to adhere to all no wake zone signs and use caution when near the area. Rockefeller?s Mud Hole water control structure will be accessible in the interim.

The new structure is designed to employ various techniques to control tidal water exchange. Additionally, it will provide a fishing pier for refuge users.

?We are excited to provide another premier fishing spot for our refuge,? said Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge Manager Scooter Trosclair. ?We strive to provide excellent habitat in our marsh management units through water management. When we can add things like fishing piers to these structures and make the resource available to all our users, we feel like it?s a win-win.?

Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses 71,000 acres in Cameron and Vermilion Parishes, borders the Gulf of Mexico for 26.5 miles and extends inland toward the Grand Chenier Ridge, a stranded beach ridge, six miles from the Gulf.
